Brimbank

Brimbank is an Adult Training and Support Service for young adults with a disability located on the Melton Highway not far from St Albans.

The service promotes community participation and inclusion within a supportive structure. Many individuals already enrolled at this centre have one-to-one staff support. Any individual, depending on their individualised support plan may get out into the local community through any of our programs at Brimbank with a support staff member by their side.

At St John of God Accord, all programs are designed based on a very thoughtful assessment, both the person, his or her skills and needs, their background and environments. Our staff provide access to programs tailored by professional instructors for all individuals. The team as a whole works together to ensure the development of social networks, access to neighbouring communities, safety and stimulation.

Geoffrey for instance, on Mondays, ventures out into the community with one-to-one support, starting with swimming. The remainder of the day he is supported to put together a personal interest scrap book that helps him put his life together, so to speak.

Tuesdays, Geoffrey attends the local bank to work in a stimulating environment that provides him with work skills, social skills and more. This environment provides him with a safe and open setting where he can engage with people and build up his self-confidence.

Programs at Brimbank are designed around friendships and common interests. Our focus on the individuals based at this service lends to more fulfilling activities for each individual and better opportunities to build a connectedness amongst the people we support, not only amongst themselves and with the Direct Support team on site but with the community.

Assisting people to develop skills, appreciate cultural differences and lead healthy lives is a focus of Brimbank. All programs recognise and meet people's interpersonal, social, and emotional needs.
