Churinga

The language of art provides the framework on which Churinga exists. As a service to people with a disability, the opportunities are endless once you have entered Churinga.

As you stroll through the corridors the artworks explore many forms of expression. Those expressions stem from a myriad of creative programs developed by the talented team at Churinga. Staff pride themselves on quality tuition and outcome for the people they support.

The Churinga Support Service is an Adult Training and Support Service that offers day programs for people with a disability, many of whom have had repeated successful exhibitions and programs around Melbourne, popular festivals and specific art projects.

The synergy amongst the team and individuals at Churinga is unparalleled to any similar service on offer. With strong collaboration and cultural support interpretations are sculptured into pure forms of expression and creation. This is a very non-mainstream approach to life and the artists’ life. Potential is seen and recognised in each individual. Characteristics are explored and individuals are given every opportunity to explore themselves, their skills and their qualities to exist and shine in the now.

Churinga Support Service, through St John of God Accord, offers a unique connection to the community. It is an expressive environment that exhibits the potential within and truly belongs to the individuals who are part of the programs and the communities they are engaged with.

The range of activities on offer includes art & design, clayworks, music & drama and healthy eating programs, as well as community based programs such as literacy, sports and recreation. Our programs aim to encourage social interaction, independence, creativity and fun. Examples of the creativity that comes out of our programs is shown throughout this website.
