Building Positive Identities - 2 Day Progressive Workshop
Explore the framework with a new approach and spread the word ... the theory is about to be challenged! The 2 day event will encourage open discussion with supportive and reflective presentations from renowned experts in the field providing an extensive theoretical overview of SRV theory. You will have the opportunity to consider the process whereby people who are socially devalued in some way (perhaps because of such conditions as being old, disabled, mentally ill or poor) are excluded from valued social roles that form the basis of our participation in ordinary community life. The presentations will examine how individuals, human services and the wider society contribute to this devaluation process, and what positive steps can be taken to prevent this from happening. There will be opportunities to network with industry colleauges, break into groups to discuss and reflect upon the material presented in the lecture presentations, and formulate action plans to assist in making SRV theory a reality in practice for your service. DATE: September 23 - 24, 2008
