St John of God Accord continues the tradition of hospitality of the Hospitaller Order of the Brothers of St John of God by maximising opportunities for people with disabilities so that they may develop their potential and participate as valued members of the community.
We exist so that people with disabilities have accommodation, lifestyles and occupations which reflect the expressed preferences of clients and their families / carers; that enhance the emotional, social, intellectual and physical well-being of clients and others; which meet or exceed community standards; and for which funding can be sourced.
For people with disabilities, the desired effects, or “outcomes of our outcome”, will be satisfaction in the following eight “quality of life” domains:
1. Emotional Well-Being: “Each person experiences contentment, self-esteem and control”
2. Interpersonal Relations: “Each person has the friends and relationships they desire”
3. Material Well-Being: “Each person a means by which to obtain the money they require to live well”
4. Personal Development: “Each person can learn skills and behaviours they need”
5. Physical Well-Being: “Each person is fit and healthy enough to perform the activities they wish to”
6. Self-Determination: “Each person can pursue their goals and experience personal control”
7. Social Inclusion: “Each person can be supported by and participate in the community as they desire”
8. Rights: “Each person is free of injury, unfairness or legal threat”
